ISLAMABAD: The Metro Bus Service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will remain suspended for four days, starting October 14, to ensure the smooth execution of the high-profile Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
The district administration directed the suspension, with the bus service operating normally until October 13.
Islamabad is set to host the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting on October 15 and 16, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The summit will bring together prominent foreign leaders, including the prime ministers of China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives from Iran, India, Mongolia, and Turkmenistan.
To maintain law and order, Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi until October 17. This prohibits political assemblies, gatherings, pillion riding, aerial firing, pigeon flying, drone usage, and laser lights.
Additionally, five districts: Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, and Kot Addu – have restrictions on public gatherings for three days due to security concerns. Karachi has also imposed a complete ban on public gatherings.
To facilitate the summit’s security, educational institutes in the federal capital territory will observe a three-day public holiday from October 14 to 16.
Furthermore, marriage halls, restaurants, and cafes in the twin cities will remain closed from October 12 to 16. Traders and hotel owners have been warned by police that any violations will result in penalties.
The SCO summit aims to discuss ongoing cooperation in economy, trade, environment, and socio-cultural linkages, reviewing the organization’s performance. The event’s successful conduct is a priority, prompting these measures to ensure security and order.
