KARACHI: Police in Sindh’s Katcha area have arrested a woman named Tania Rano, accused of luring people into marriage traps and involvement in a kidnapping ring.
Tania, also known as Hina Khan or Hina Baloch, the wife of gang member Badeel Shar, allegedly worked with dacoits to deceive victims with promises of marriage, using video calls to convince them to meet her. Her role was to bring victims to the gang’s base in Kashmore and Ghotki.
Tania’s operations were facilitated by a SIM card provided by the gang through a courier service when she arrived in Karachi. Interestingly, she was initially working with one gang but was later approached by another group of dacoits who offered her a share if she assisted them.
The suspect had extensive contacts across Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. At the time of her arrest, Tania had already trapped a man named Ayaz from Lahore, but fortunately, the police rescued him before he fell into the hands of the dacoits.
SSP Haider said that after making use of technical investigation methods, the police conducted a raid in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area that led to Tina’s arrest. Haider was proud to claim that police utilized technical expertise to crack the case, ultimately apprehending the main accused.
According to SSP, police registered a case under Section 365 A/34 of kidnapping for ransom and handed over investigations to the AVCC. He said that police were making efforts for the safe recovery of Ayaz.
This arrest highlights the growing concern of organized groups involved in abduction and forced marriage, particularly targeting young girls and women in Sindh.
