ISLAMABAD: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has rejected the notion of hosting the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan without India, citing commercial interests.
As per the details, India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan due to ongoing geopolitical tensions has created complications for tournament organizers.
ECB officials emphasize that India’s participation is crucial for protecting broadcast rights and revenue. Richard Gould, the Chief Executive, and Chairman Richard Thompson acknowledged that while there may be alternatives if India remains firm, excluding India from the tournament is not an option.
Pakistan’s plea to have India excluded comes amid its participation in the recent World Cup in India while India has not visited Pakistan since 2008. The Champion’s Trophy is scheduled for February 19 to March 9, featuring eight teams, including Afghanistan, Australia and South Africa with matches planned for the renovated Gaddafi Stadium.
