ISLAMABAD: WhatsApp users in Pakistan are reportedly facing disruptions in using mobile data services during the recent protests in Pakistan, here on Wednesday.
As per the details, users of instant messaging services are unable to share photos and voice messages through the app. On Wednesday, service there was working fine on Wi-Fi and local networks.
The protests were triggered by claims of the alleged rape of a student on the college campus, leading to tension between the protesters and the police.
After 28 students were injured in the clash, student organizations also held rallies demanding justice and accountability. The protests intensified after several students and activists were arrested for sharing information about the incident, which has attracted widespread attention on social media.
The security guard has been detained as part of an investigation into the alleged assault, although police have confirmed that no formal complaint has been lodged by the victim’s family.
The Punjab government constituted a high-powered committee to investigate the matter. As the situation unfolds, students are calling for the formation of anti-harassment committees on campus and awareness campaigns about harassment laws.
