ISLAMABAD: A video circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups showing the murder of a Punjab College student is being attributed to the recent violent student protests across Punjab.
Several social media users claimed that a student of Punjab College has been shot dead by police in recent series of violent protests over the alleged rape of a female student in Lahore’s Gulberg campus.
A user named Noshi Gilani, shared a post on X — the post crossed 237k views — claiming that police had killed the student during recent protests.
Another user, Sara Mir, also shared a post that crossed 196K views on X, formerly known as Twitter. She wrote that on the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, a student protester have been killed.
Fact Check
As the video went viral on social media, Daily Ausaf, checked the source and found that the incident happened on October 8 in Tehsil Alipur Chatta of Wazirabad district.
Punjab police spokesperson shared an FIR, registered at Alipur Chatta police station on the complaint of the victim’s father.
According to the FIR, the deceased student was traveling toward the Punjab College Alipur when an unidentified man stopped him and shot him on the right side of the head.
