LAHORE: The Punjab government has declared a holiday for all public and private educational institutions on October 18 (Friday) amid student protests over an alleged rape case at Punjab College in Lahore.
The notifications issued by the School Education Department stated that the schools across the province will remain closed tomorrow.
Similarly, the Higher Education Department also notified holidays in colleges and universities in the province as potential student demonstrations could erupt demanding justice for the first-year female student.
Earlier, the Punjab govt also imposed Section 144 across the province on Oct 18 and October 19 to ban all kinds of protests, rallies, and related activities. Police have been deployed to ensure law and order situation.
Today, over 250 student protesters were arrested from Rawalpindi for staging a violent protest and vandalizing Punjab college campuses in different areas of the city.
However, the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz declared that the alleged rape was “fabricated news”, blaming the PTI for spreading the “fake reports” on social media.
