KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has started collecting conical baffle charges under its geyser campaign, leaving millions of consumers within its 3.2 million customer network distressed due to the extra charges.
Consumers have received additional bills amounting to Rs2,085, regardless of whether geysers were installed in their homes, and in some cases, before the installation of conical baffles.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) stepped in to clarify that the installation of conical baffles is mandatory to ensure safety and reduce gas bills.
Consumers who have been wrongly charged without having a geyser are advised to file complaints with SSGC or OGRA. SSGC officials assure that surveys were conducted before applying the charges, which were approved by OGRA, and contractors have begun the installation process.
To address concerns, SSGC urges consumers to contact their nearest Customer Facilitation Center (CFC). This move is part of the government’s energy conservation measures, declared mandatory by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) in January 2023.
The conical baffles aim to reduce gas consumption by up to 45% and gas bills by up to 25%.
