According to reports, the aircraft is an Ilyushin Il-76 military transport, which is believed to have crashed not far from Belgorod, close to the Russian-Ukrainian border.

There were allegedly some Ukrainian POWs on board this aircraft, according to the Russians.

Ukraine has refuted that. Although the Ukrainian government has not yet released an official statement, numerous news outlets are citing their own security sources to claim that the aircraft carried either S-300 system missiles or parts, indicating that it is a legitimate target in Ukrainian eyes.
