ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said party founder Imran Khan instructed the party to continue negotiations with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the proposed constitutional amendments.
“Even if I am kept in this jail for 100 years, I will stay but I will not disappoint the nation. I will stand for the nation’s freedom, independence, constitution, and supremacy of law,” Imran Khan said during the meeting with the PTI delegation.
Speaking during a press conference after meeting Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar said the party delegation, including himself, Salman Akram Raja, Asad Qaiser, Ali Zafar, and Hamid Khan, held a 45-minute deliberation with Khan over constitutional amendments.
The development comes a day after the special parliamentary committee — headed by PPP lawmaker Khursheed Shah — “unanimously approved” the draft for the 26th constitutional amendment.
During the meeting, Barrister Gohar said, the PTI founder was also informed about the meeting with JUI-F Chief Fazl on which he praised Maulana, adding “We will continue to negotiate with Maulana Fazl.”
Imran Khan named Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Malik Ahmad Bachar, and Ali Amin Gandapur to accompany him for consultations on the constitutional package matter, the PTI leader added.
“We discussed the amendments with the PTI founder and he has sought a broader consensus on the legislation, which he described as a ‘serious matter’,” the PTI chief said during the presser.
Talking about the former premier’s health and jail conditions, Gohar Khan said he was in good health, however, there was no electricity in the jail for five days.
He further said the party supremo was denied with the newspaper or TV facility for two weeks. Moreover, Imran Khan told party leaders that the exercise facility has also been taken from him.
