ISLAMABAD: The constitutional amendments could not be presented in the Parliament after the meetings held at the residence of Jamiat Ulema Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the National Assembly and Senate sessions started late. The matter has been adjourned till Sunday.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence remained the center of attention throughout the week as it was visited by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and heads of various political parties. visited (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Balochistan National Party (Mengal) chief Akhtar Mengal.
The session of the National Assembly which started after a delay of hours continued for a few minutes while the session of the Senate started after a delay of about three hours from its scheduled time due to the absence of some members of the assembly of the government.
Will wait for PTI’s reply till Sunday
Talking to journalists along with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he will wait for PTI’s reply till Sunday before presenting constitutional amendments in Parliament.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the PTI leadership met its founder on Saturday and conveyed his message to me. He said PTI is expected to announce its decision on Sunday.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman said that “we will wait till tomorrow and inform the nation about the situation”.
Fazlur Rehman will convince PTI, Bilawal hopes
Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed confidence that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will convince PTI to support the constitutional amendments.
Bilawal said that PTI’s objections have been addressed and they are not part of the constitutional amendments.
He hoped that Maulana Fazlur Rehman himself would present the agreed draft in the assembly. Bilawal stressed the importance of consensus among all parties and said that he wants the constitutional amendments to be passed by mutual consent.
PTI will not vote on constitutional amendments
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed fears that two of its senators may vote in favor of constitutional amendments against the party’s policy.
In a statement issued here, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said that it has been learned that two senators of the party Zarqa Taimur and Faisal Saleem will vote against the party policy.
Barrister Gohar Ali said that I think our two senators Zarqa Taimur and Faisal Salim are going to vote against the party policy.
Earlier, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan said that no progress can be made without Imran Khan’s “clear” instructions on constitutional amendments.
He said that the party will not vote for the approval of the constitutional amendments, reiterating its determination to follow Imran Khan’s instructions on constitutional amendments. The PTI Chairman said that in the meeting with Jamiat Ulema Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he made it clear that he will not vote for the constitutional amendments until a clear instruction from Imran Khan.
