ISLAMABAD: In a joint press conference, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gauhar and Maulana Fazlur Rahman leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) addressed the media regarding the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
Barrister Gauhar announced that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) respects Maulana’s role but cannot vote for the bill due to ongoing protests and violence at their demonstrations, as well as the arrest of their workers. The party will express its position through speeches on the assembly floor, highlighting its objections to the bill.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman responded to PTI’s stance, acknowledging their concerns but emphasizing that there is no disagreement on the basic draft of the bill.
In addition, he highlighted the collaborative efforts between the opposition and the government in passing the 18th amendment, which was achieved despite initial differences.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman noted that the Constitution of Pakistan was formed in a challenging environment, including the dissolution of the Balochistan Assembly and his father’s resignation from the Ministry.
Despite these challenges, the Constitution was finalized, and the 18th Amendment was passed through collective efforts.
The 26th Constitutional Amendment has been a topic of discussion, with various parties having their positions. While PTI has decided to boycott the vote, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has supported the bill.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed understanding of PTI’s decision, acknowledging that each party has its specific position and cannot be coerced.
In conclusion, the 26th Constitutional Amendment bill has sparked diverse reactions from Pakistani political parties. PTI’s decision to boycott the vote reflects its strong reservations, while Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has thrown its support behind the bill. The outcome of this amendment remains to be seen.
