MARDAN: Two transgender persons were killed by unidentified men armed with daggers at their home near the police lines area in Mardan on Sunday night.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Shah Salman alias Salmanu and Sabir alias Nazik, along with other colleagues were inside the house when three unidentified assailants attacked, killing them on the spot, and fled the scene.
The transgender women were killed by slitting their throats and their bodies were brutally mutilated, a doctor from the Mardan Medical Complex said.
The police registered an FIR against the assailants and started an investigation.
“The slain persons along with other colleagues were inside a house when they were attacked. The other transgender persons hid themselves in a bathroom to save their lives,” a spokesperson for the local transgender persons’ association told the media.
Farzana Jan, President of the Trans Action rights group in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa told AP, “We have given a three-day deadline to the police for arresting those behind the killing. “We will stage rallies if the killers of two members of our community are not arrested,” She added.
