LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced revised school timings for Lahore, effective October 28, in response to the city’s worsening smog situation.
To minimize students’ exposure to hazardous air quality, schools will now operate from 8:45 am to 2:45 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:45 am to 12:45 pm on Fridays, until January 31.
As part of the new schedule, assemblies will be held in classrooms, and all outdoor activities have been banned to safeguard students’ health. The revised timings aim to reduce students’ time spent outdoors during peak pollution hours.
Parents and students are advised to take necessary precautions, including wearing masks and limiting outdoor exposure, to mitigate the effects of smog. The new school timings will remain in place until January 31, after which they will be reassessed based on Lahore’s air quality.
In addition, the Punjab government has devised plans for artificial rain in Lahore to reduce smog as well as cloud seeding which may promote new rain spells in the provincial capital.
Earlier, Lahore was announced as the most polluted city in the world increasing concerns of Lahore citizens.
