ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the reduction of Rs0.86 per unit in electricity prices for October 2024, providing much-needed relief to inflation-ridden citizens.
According to the notification, the prices for electricity consumers have been lowered due to the monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for August 2024.
During a public hearing that took place on September 26, 2024, NEPRA decided on the reduction, which is higher than the Rs0.57 per unit decrease initially requested by the Central Power Purchasing Agency.
NEPRA stated that this adjustment is Rs0.49 per unit less than the FCA charged in July, offering consumers a greater reduction in their October bills. Consumers who have already received their bills will receive this relief in November.
The relief will be given in the electricity bills of October to all consumers of distribution companies (DISCOs) and those consumers who have received the bills will be given relief in next month’s bills.
The reduction in electricity rates will not apply to lifeline users, prepaid consumers, K-electric customers, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
