ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Housing and Works has devised a comprehensive plan to increase the monthly rental ceiling for government employees, providing much-needed relief amid the escalating house rents in the federal capital and other cities.
This proposal, recently sent to the Finance Division for approval, outlines substantial increases in rental ceilings for various grade levels, ensuring that government employees can afford decent housing.
According to the plan, employees in grades 1 to 10 will receive a 100% increase in their rental ceiling, while those in grades 11 to 16 will benefit from a 75% increase.
Meanwhile, officers in grades 17 to 22 will receive a 50% increase in their rental ceiling. This tiered approach aims to provide proportionate relief to employees across different grade levels.
The proposed rental ceilings vary by city and grade level. For instance, employees in grades 1 and 2 will be eligible for a fixed house rent of Rs14,058 in Islamabad and Rs13,182 in other cities.
Those in grades 3 to 6 will have a rental ceiling of Rs 21,960 in Islamabad and Rs 19,308 in other cities. Similarly, employees in grades 7 to 10 will have a rental ceiling of Rs28,705 in Islamabad and Rs25,693 in other cities.
For higher-grade employees, the proposed rental ceilings are as follows: grades 11 to 13 will have a ceiling of Rs43,302 in Islamabad and Rs37,558 in other cities, while grades 14 to 16 will have a ceiling of Rs54,399 in Islamabad and Rs47,884 in other cities. Furthermore, employees in grades 17 and 18 will have a rental ceiling of Rs61,720 in Islamabad and Rs53,847 in other cities.
Once the Finance Division provides its feedback, the Ministry will submit a summary to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final approval. This development aims to alleviate the burden of increased housing costs on government employees, particularly in cities where rents have skyrocketed.
The increased rental ceiling will enable employees to afford decent housing, improving their overall quality of life.
The proposed increases are expected to benefit thousands of government employees across the country, providing them with a more sustainable and affordable housing solution.
