LAHORE: In Punjab, including Lahore and Rawalpindi, obtaining a valid driving license from the relevant authorities is mandatory for all eligible citizens before hitting the road.
To get this license, applicants must clear both theoretical and practical tests. The government also charges a fee for issuing the license, which was recently hiked massively by the Punjab government.
The revised fee structure, which came into effect after a 20-year gap, has increased the fees for various types of driving licenses, including learner licenses, car and motorcycle licenses, and more.
For instance, motorcyclists will now have to pay Rs. 4900 for a 5-year license, a whopping 791% increase from the previous fee of Rs. 60.
Similarly, car and jeep owners will face an 1100% surge, with fees skyrocketing from Rs. 550 to Rs. 11400.
Previously, the government received a Rs550 fee for a motorcycle driving license with five-year validity. Now, the authority receives Rs500 per year for a motorcycle driving license.
