ISLAMABAD: The Hindu community is celebrating Diwali, also known as Deepavali — the festival of lights and one of the most important events in the Hindu calendar — with religious zeal and fervor today across the country.
To mark the day, thousands of Hindus lit the earthen lamps at their homes and temples for their religious ritual of commemorating the return of Lord Rama. Special sermons have been arranged in Hindu temples nationwide.
Diwali is usually observed between mid-October and mid-November to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Hindus also celebrate Diwali as a chance to worship and celebrate the Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi.
PM extends greetings
In his message on Diwali, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended “warm wishes to the Hindu community in Pakistan and around the world on the joyous occasion of Diwali.”
In his message on X, the premier wrote, “May this festival of lights bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to all. Let us celebrate unity in diversity and continue to strengthen the bonds that make our nation stronger.”

PM paid tribute to the valuable contributions of the vibrant Hindu community in Pakistan, whose role in the country’s socio-economic and political spheres continues to strengthen the nation, PM Office said in a press release.
Shehbaz Sharif said it is a matter of immense pleasure to see members of the Hindu and other minority communities working alongside their Muslims for the progress of the country, truly in line with the vision of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
