LAHORE: It has been proposed to keep all educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday after the continuous smog in Lahore. It aims to reduce exposure to hazardous air quality, which has recently reached dangerous levels.
The proposal also mentions a “green lockdown” in key areas like Gulbarg, Liberty, MM Alam Road, and Main Market along with neighbourhoods near Shimla Hill. These measures are aimed at reducing pollution and protecting the health of residents.
Lahore Division Commissioner and Environment Secretary will submit these proposals to Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb for consideration.
It should be noted that yesterday the authorities announced the closure of primary schools for a week due to dangerously high pollution. Senior environmental protection official Jahangir Anwar confirmed that all classes for children up to the age of 10, including public, private and special educational institutions, will be suspended from Monday to Saturday.
The weather forecast indicates that prevailing wind patterns will persist for the next six days, contributing to ongoing pollution concerns. The purpose of this decision is to protect the health of millions of children exposed to the dangerous smog enveloping the city.
