KARACHI: Two Chinese nationals were injured in a shooting incident in Karachi, Pakistan, on Tuesday, after a security guard opened fire on them at a factory in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) area.
The guard’s actions were reportedly sparked by a heated argument with the Chinese nationals. Kemari Senior Superintendent of Police Faizan Ali confirmed that the two Chinese individuals were injured due to the security guard’s firing.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has taken swift action, ordering the arrest of the security guard involved and calling for a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
In addition, Lanjar emphasized the importance of ensuring physical and mental fitness tests for security guards assigned to duty and advocated for auditing companies providing security to Chinese experts and residents.
He also directed a crackdown on unregistered and illegal security companies. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of foreign residents in Pakistan, particularly Chinese nationals.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed concern over the injured foreigners and requested a report from Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, stating that the safety of foreign residents is a top priority.
