QUETTA: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, emphasized the need for a unified national effort to combat terrorism. He stressed that eradicating terrorism requires steadfast support from all Pakistanis, in addition to the efforts of military and civil institutions.
According to the press statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) General Munir made these remarks while attending the funeral prayer for victims of the Quetta Railway Station suicide blast.
Federal Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi, Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti, Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, and other high-ranking military and civilian officials attended the funeral prayer. Following the prayer, General Munir visited CMH Quetta to inquire about the injured, a press statement added.
The COAS reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eliminating terrorism, emphasizing that it will not be tolerated. He underscored the importance of national resolve and collective determination in achieving this mission.
Earlier, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti called upon the nation to unite against terrorism, urging citizens to recognize the state’s efforts in countering this threat. Bugti criticized “so-called” human rights activists for remaining silent.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed his determination to eradicate terrorism, assuring that those responsible for the Quetta attack would face consequences. Naqvi revealed that security forces had foiled five terror attempts in recent days.
The Interior Minister also announced that the Prime Minister had ordered an investigation into the Quetta Railway Station incident. Both Naqvi and Bugti emphasized that terrorists have no religion or nation and that the government is committed to providing assistance to Balochistan to combat terrorism and promote development.
The tragic incident resulted in 26 fatalities and over 40 injuries, highlighting the urgent need for collective action against terrorism in Pakistan.
