LAHORE: The government of Punjab has allocated a significant Rs. 4 billion for the Chief Minister’s “Free Solar Panel Project.”
As per the details, the funding, released by the Punjab Finance Department, is for the provision of free solar panels, with the aim of reducing energy problems across the province by promoting sustainable electricity solutions.
It is worth noting that this project will benefit low consumption households across the province. Under this scheme, households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month will get solar panels at no cost.
Users of 200 to 500 units will also have access to subsidized panels, which will pay only 10 percent of the total cost, while the Punjab government covers the remaining 90 percent. These payments will be interest-free and spread over five years, making it financially feasible for middle-income households.
Earlier, the Punjab Chief Minister had said that the move is expected to reduce electricity bills by 40 percent, reaffirming his commitment to provide much-needed relief to the public in tough economic times.
Apart from the solar initiative, the Punjab Finance Department has allocated Rs. 40 million for a new sports complex in Judicial Colony and more Rs. 40 million to expand the gymnasium and construct a table tennis court at Nishtar Park.
Moreover, Rs. 40 million has been earmarked for a sports complex in R2 Block of Johar Town. All funding details have been made publicly available online, highlighting the government’s focus on both renewable energy and community development projects.
