LAHORE: To combat the deteriorating air quality in Punjab, the Environment Protection Department has directed all private offices, franchises, and NGOs in smog-hit areas to adopt a 50% work-from-home policy starting November 13 to December 31, 2024.
This measure aims to protect public health in Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, and Faisalabad divisions, where air pollution has reached alarming levels.
According to the notification issued by Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency, Punjab, the decision is empowered by Section 6(1) (t) of the Punjab Environmental Protection Act, 1997.
This section enables the EPA to take necessary measures for environmental protection, conservation, and sustainable development.
The work-from-home policy will reduce the physical presence of employees by 50%, shifting them to online mode. This order will remain in force until December 31, 2024, and is a crucial step towards mitigating the adverse effects of smog on public health.
By implementing this policy, the Punjab government hopes to minimize the exposure of citizens to hazardous air quality and promote a healthier environment.
