LAHORE: Punjab University students blocked Canal Road in Lahore on Thursday to protest the killing of their colleague in broad daylight.
One of the main arteries of the provincial capital is witnessing a heavy traffic jam, while police personnel are trying to convince protesters to vacate the road.
Reports said that a student named Ammar was shot at by unknown assailants at the university, who later fled the scene. He was rushed to the hospital after being shot but succumbed to his injuries.
The situation in Punjab University became tense after the firing and students protested on the campus bridge and completely blocked the underpass and the main Canal Road.
The students strongly condemned the use of firearms. They said that shots were fired directly at the students in broad daylight and both the police and the university administration completely failed to provide protection to the students. This is the second major incident of firing in a month.
