PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks this year which claimed the lives of at least 275 people and injured hundreds of others in more than 600 attacks.
According to the report released by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday, the outgoing year witnessed a total of 636 terrorist attacks, including six suicide bombings, 113 improvised explosives device (IED) blasts, and 355 shooting incidents.
The CTD data showed that 142 police personnel and 133 civilians were martyred, while 214 policemen and 246 civilians were injured across the province in these terrorist attacks.
On the other hand, security forces also conducted various intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in the province against banned terrorist outfits, primarily Fitna al-Khawarij [Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan].
The report revealed that 2,981 intelligence-based operations were carried out this year in which 246 terrorists were killed and 739 others were arrested, including 29 highly-wanted terrorists.
The data showed that 849 kilogrammes of explosives, including 162 hand grenades, seven suicide jackets, and 162 different types of weapons were recovered from outlawed groups during these IBOs.
