According to figures from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), tea imports into the nation increased by 5.53% during the first half of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year.
According to PBS data, the country’s tea imports grew to $336.423 million from July to December (2023–24) from $318.798 million in July to December (2022–2023). When compared to the previous review period, when the nation imported 128,068 metric tonnes of tea, the amount of imports increased by 9.12% to 139,751 metric tonnes.
In the meantime, tea imports fell 16.80% year over year in December 2023 to $58.869 million from $70.759 million in December of the previous year. However, according to PBS data, the commodity’s imports increased by 9.81% in December 2023 compared to its $53.608 million imports in November 2023.

The total amount of food category imports into the nation fell by 19.48% in the first half of the current fiscal year. From July to December of 2023, food imports were $3,957.188 billion, compared to $4,914.278 billion in the same period the previous year.
It is important to note that, as compared to the same period last year, the nation’s overall goods trade deficit decreased by 34.29% in the first half of the current fiscal year.

The trade deficit for July–December of 2023–2024 was $11.148 billion, a negative growth of 34.29% when compared to the deficit of $16.965 billion in July–December of 2022–2023. According to the most recent PBS data, exports climbed by 5.17% to $14.981 billion during the period under review compared to $14.244 billion during the similar period previous year. Conversely, imports decreased by 16.28% to $26.129 billion from $31.209 billion in the previous year.
