
KARACHI: Taking a decisive step against overcharging during Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, transporters have been fined over PKR 8 million for violating fare regulations, according to DIG Motorway Police Asghar Ali Yousafzai.
The Motorway Police has recovered over Rs 9 million from transport companies and refunded the money to passengers.
DIG Yousafzai stressed that overboarding and overcharging will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The crackdown is part of a wider effort to ensure reasonable prices and passenger safety during the festive season.
The Motorway Police has announced that the route permits of companies found guilty of overcharging during Eid-ul-Fitr will be cancelled.
Transport authorities have set up help desks at bus terminals to redress complaints and monitor compliance with the government fare structure to avoid overcharging during Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Sindh Transport Department is also actively addressing complaints of overcharging during Eid-ul-Fitr.
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed transport authorities to ensure strict implementation of official fare rates and warned transporters of stiff fines for violations by traffic authorities or motorway police.
Efforts to curb overcharging complement traffic management plans aimed at reducing congestion in Karachi’s bustling markets during Eid-ul-Fitr.

Earlier, the Sindh Transport Department had fined 71 inter-city buses for overcharging passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025.
The department took this action in response to numerous complaints from passengers regarding overcharging.
The buses were fined heavily and Rs575,000, which was unfairly charged from passengers, was recovered and returned to them.
Furthermore, Secretary PTA, Okash Khalid Memon, played an active role in the investigation and personally interacted with passengers to resolve the issue of overcharging.
