
LAHORE: Lahore Police on Monday registered a case against renowned singer Salman Ahmed under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly propagating against national security institutions and the state on social media.
The case was registered by the police at the Defence Police Station.
According to a First Information Report (FIR), Salman Ahmed shared false propaganda and hateful content against state institutions on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The FIR further stated that an on-duty police officer personally observed the posts.
Salman Ahmed has around 265,400 followers on X, indicating the wide reach of his content.
Earlier, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had expelled singer Salman Ahmed from the party and also suspended his membership for criticizing the family of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The party issued several warnings to Salman Ahmed, but the fanatic guitarist did not change his behavior.
