NEW DELHI: An Indian air traveler, Mr. Masand, has recently become the subject of scandalous news for urinating on fellow passenger Hiroshi Yoshizane, who was seated in 1D, while flying on Air India from Delhi to Bangkok on April 9, 2025.
According to reports, Mr. Masand drank two glasses of single malt, which made him intoxicated, after which he proceeded to get up from his seat and started urinating on a nearby Japanese passenger identified as Mr. Yoshizane.
Mr. Hiroshi then called the Senior Cabin Crew (SCC) member, Sunpreet Singh, and crew member Rishika Matre, who provided wet towels to Mr.Hiroshi. The crew members later asked the passenger if he wanted to complain about Mr.Masand, but Mr.Hiroshi denied it and said that he did not want to waste his time after landing.
The crew members transferred Mr.Hiroshi from seat 1D to 2D and deep cleaned the seat.
However, this has garnered universal outrage across social media, and in response, Air India has taken interim measures by banning Mr. Masand from flying with them for 30 days.
Air India confirmed the incident and explained that the crew adhered to all the specified protocols and directly reported the incident to the authorities.
The incident is currently under investigation, and an independent committee will determine the course of action. Based on the committee’s findings, other airlines may also ban Mr. Masand from flying.
The incident has heightened attentiveness on passenger behavior, and there are calls for stricter measures for safety and comfort while flying.
Air India is also reinforcing their commitment to having a safe space for all of their passengers. The airline’s willingness to suspend Mr. Masand as an additive measure has also been appreciated, and many await the investigation‘s results.
