Islamabad: In a dramatic turn of events, PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has intensified the call for declaring the recent elections in Rawalpindi division null and void following startling admissions of electoral irregularities.
The demand comes in the wake of Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha’s resignation, in which he accepted responsibility for alleged rigging during the 2024 elections. Commissioner Chatha’s confession unveiled a troubling narrative of electoral manipulation, with candidates purportedly leading by significant margins suddenly facing defeat due to fraudulent practices under his supervision.
Expressing deep concern over these revelations, Barrister Gohar urged an immediate and thorough investigation into the rigging allegations put forth by Commissioner Chatha. “The Commissioner’s acknowledgment of electoral malpractice demands urgent scrutiny,” emphasized the PTI leader.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Barrister Gohar underscored the need for transparency regarding the identities of winning candidates prior to the alleged rigging. “It is imperative that we identify the candidates who were originally leading in their constituencies before falling victim to fraudulent tactics,” he asserted, pointing to discrepancies between Form 45 and Form 47 submissions.

Emphasizing the seriousness of the Commissioner’s statements, Barrister Gohar cautioned against the repercussions of overlooking electoral misconduct. “If we are to restore faith in the democratic process, we cannot shy away from addressing these alarming revelations,” he stated, hinting at the potential necessity of initiating a new election process to rectify the situation.
As calls for accountability grow louder, the nation awaits further developments in this unfolding saga, with the prospect of electoral integrity hanging in the balance.
