ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi was chosen to lead the Pakistan Tennis Federation. Haq received eight votes to take the top spot in the federation, whereas Asghar Nawaz, his opponent, was only able to receive seven of fifteen.

The Tennis Federation elected retired colonel Zia to the position of Secretary-General and Arif Qureshi to the position of Finance Secretary. For a four-year term, the Pakistan Tennis Federation elected new officials.
Prior to this, Pakistan advanced to World Group One despite losing the Davis Cup match against India. Pakistan was unable to win the doubles match as well after losing the singles match. The Indian tennis team, which is in Pakistan for the Davis Cup after 60 years, played quite well in both singles and doubles matches.
India won the doubles match on the second day of the Davis Cup tie by a score of three sets to nil, securing a commanding lead. Aisam ul Haq and Muzammil Murtaza were beaten by Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni, an Indian duo, in the doubles event, 2-6, 6-7.

With scores of 7-6, 6-7, and 0-6, India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated Pakistan’s Aisam ul Haq in the first singles match. Sasi Kumar Mukund defeated Aqeel Khan in the second singles encounter with scores of 5-7 and 3-6. Following their elimination in the playoffs, Pakistan advanced to the World Group II of the Davis Cup.
