PTI Urges IMF to Withhold Loans Amid Election Rigging Allegations

ISLAMABAD: Renowned journalist Khawar Ghumman took to Twitter to announce the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s decision to formally request the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to refrain from providing any financial assistance to Pakistan until a thorough investigation into alleged election rigging is conducted.

Expressing concern over the direction of the nation, Ghumman highlighted PTI’s stance, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles and ensuring transparency in electoral processes. PTI’s call for an impartial investigation underscores the party’s commitment to fair governance and electoral integrity.

SC to hear petition seeking election 2024 null and void today

The Supreme Court of Pakistan will hear the petition requesting the annulment of the general election 2024 today.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa including Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarat Hilali will hear the petition.

The petition filed by citizen Ali Khan has requested that the pre-poll rigging, and delay in the results pose a threat to democratic principles and that the apex court should order fresh elections under its supervision within 30 days.

The allegations of former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha are also likely to be examined during the hearing. Liaqat Ali Chattha on Saturday admitted his role in massive rigging in Rawalpindi Division during the Feb 8 elections.

In this regard, on the complaint of the Additional Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, the Punjab government has decided to register a case against the former Commissioner Rawalpindi for violating the rules of the Election Commission and the criminal code.
