PSL-9: Quetta Gladiators beat Peshawar Zalmi by 16 runs


Lahore: Quetta Gladiators comfortably defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 16 runs in the second match of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In pursuit of Quetta Gladiators’ target of 207 runs, Peshawar Zalmi managed to score 190 runs within the allotted 20 overs. Babar Azam showcased an impressive batting performance, contributing 68 runs before being dismissed.

The match, held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, saw Peshawar Zalmi’s captain Babar Azam extending a batting invitation to Quetta Gladiators.

Quetta Gladiators’ Innings:

Quetta Gladiators’ openers provided a solid start, scoring a remarkable 206 runs despite losing five wickets in the process. Jason Roy scored 75 runs, while Saud Shakeel contributed 74 runs before being dismissed.

Captain Riley Rossouw scored 13 runs, while Sherfane Rutherford and Mohammad Wasim scored 20 and 4 runs respectively. Khurram Nawaz remained not out after scoring 6 runs.

Salman Irshad from Peshawar Zalmi claimed 3 wickets, while Luke Wood and Mohammad Zeshan took one wicket each.

Peshawar Zalmi’s Innings:

In pursuit of the 207-run target, Peshawar Zalmi started aggressively. Openers Babar Azam and Saimee Ayoob shared a partnership of 91 runs. Saimee Ayoob scored 42 runs off 26 balls before being unlucky to get run out.

Following his dismissal, Mohammad Haris scored 7 runs, Tom Kohler-Cadmore scored 18 runs, and Powell scored 17 runs. Captain Babar Azam played an impressive innings, scoring 68 runs off 42 balls before getting out.

Despite their efforts, Peshawar Zalmi managed to score 190 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs, resulting in Quetta Gladiators winning the match by 16 runs.

From Quetta Gladiators’ side, Abrar Ahmed claimed 2 wickets, while Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Wasim, and Akif Hussain took one wicket each.

Saud Shakeel from Quetta Gladiators was declared the player of the match for his splendid batting performance.

It is pertinent to mention that Islamabad United defeated Lahore Qalandars by 8 wickets in the opening match of the event yesterday.

It should be noted that the second match of the HBL PSL between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings will be held at Multan Cricket Stadium today.
