According to an ECP spokeswoman, by airing a live interview with a politician on Thursday afternoon, “Dawn News,” “ARY News,” “Geo News,” and “GNN” violated both Section 182 of the Elections Act 2017 and the Commission’s Code of Conduct for National Media.

Despite explicit instructions from the ECP, a live conversation with a political leader that aired on the television channel raised concerns that the ECP shared with PEMRA.

The ECP gave the regulator instructions to take action against the channels that engaged in these kinds of violations, including stopping their broadcast and filing a lawsuit against them under Section 10 of the Elections Act of 2017.
