Punjab Board Revolutionizes Education: All Exams to Be Held in English from 2025

Lahore: In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing students’ English proficiency and aligning educational standards with global norms, all educational boards in Punjab have announced plans to conduct matriculation exams in English for both science and arts streams, beginning in 2025.

Under this progressive policy, the use of Urdu in question papers will be phased out, ensuring a uniform language medium across all subjects. Furthermore, starting in 2026, all optional subjects for FA exams will also be conducted in English, marking a significant shift towards English-based education.

While formal approval of this forward-thinking policy is pending, educational authorities anticipate its endorsement during the forthcoming Punjab Boards Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting. This transformative initiative underscores a proactive approach by Punjab’s educational sector to adapt to evolving trends and equip students with essential language skills for academic and professional success.

However, amidst these commendable reforms, concerns have been raised by Rana Liaqat Ali, General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, regarding potential challenges arising from the language transition. Ali emphasized the need for adequate teacher training to ensure a smooth transition and mitigate potential student failure rates due to language barriers.

Acknowledging these concerns, it’s crucial to recognize the long-term benefits of providing students with English proficiency, essential in today’s interconnected world. By embracing this change, Punjab’s educational system aims to empower students with the skills necessary to thrive in a globalized environment while upholding academic excellence and competitiveness.
