LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has conducted the longest and heaviest freight train in its history, setting a record. The spokesman stated that the fifty-coach freight train, which was nearly 2,500 feet long, was driven by a powerful GE U40 locomotive engine.

The train headed to Kotri with more than 3,000 tons of freight after leaving Karachi. By lowering pollutants, this program will not only lessen the burden on road traffic but also help to preserve the environment. It is important to note that Pakistan Railways (PR) had a historic rise in revenue in the first eight months of the 2023–24 fiscal year, with earnings rising to Rs50 billion.
Pakistan Railways (PR) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Aamir Baloch, stated that the PR’s revenue in the first eight months of FY2023–24 was Rs50 billion, up from Rs32 billion in the same period the previous year.
Baloch praised the dedication of the Pakistan Railways employees and expressed optimism that, by the end of FY2023–2024, revenue will have increased to Rs80 billion. 820 high capacity wagons under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
According to Ministry of Railways official, “of the total, approximately 46 Completely-Built-Up (CBU) passenger coaches have been procured up to this point while the remaining 184 would be manufactured in the country and the coaches would be able to travel at the speed of 160km/h.”
