SHANGLA: Five Chinese nationals were killed in an explosion after their convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber near Besham City of Shangla District on Tuesday, a senior police officer said.

A vehicle carrying five Chinese engineers were going to Dasu camp in Kohistan from Islamabad when they came under attack by the terrorists near Besham, a town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla region. According to the reports, all 6 passengers including Chinese workers have lost their lives, injuring several in the incident.

DIG Malakand told the media that the Pakistani driver of the car was injured and was shifted to a local hospital. Later, the driver succumbed to his wounds during treatment.

A suicide bomber crashed an explosives vehicle into a convoy of Chinese engineers traveling from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu, DIG Malakand Mohammad Ali Gandapur told Reuters. “Five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver were killed in the attack,” Gandapur said in a statement.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had reached the spot and started relief operations, police officials said. Chinese nationals were employed on the Dasu Hydropower Project, a large hydroelectric gravity dam capable of producing 4,320 MW of electricity.
