LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday decided to appoint wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan as the vice-captain of the national team.

The 31-year-old cricketer Rizwan was earlier appointed as the vice-captain of Pakistan’s T-20 team.

Recently, star batsman, Babar Azam was reappointed as Pakistan’s captain in white ball cricket ahead of the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand on home soil.

After the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023, Babar was removed from the captaincy in all formats and Shaheen took over the shorter format and Shaun Masood was named Test captain while no ODI captain was announced.

The decision to switch Shaheen Afridi to the shorter format was made after his captaincy led to a 4-1 T20 series loss against New Zealand.

It may be noted that Rizwan was recently preferred by former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for the T20 team captaincy instead of left-arm pacer Shaheen.
