According to the local publication, Pakistan’s T20 team captain Shaheen Afridi is at risk of losing his captaincy ahead of this T20 World Cup 2024.
Lahore Qalandars performed poorly in Pakistan Super League (PSL 9) season nine, coming last in the points table under Shaheen’s captaincy.
According to the report, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been briefed about a change in captaincy.
“Some say Shaheen, 23, is too young for this role and needs to mature. On the other hand, some board members believe that changing leadership so soon to the World Cup would be a bad idea since it could hurt the team’s performance,” according to the local media.

In case Shaheen is ousted from captaincy, Mohammad Rizwan is likely to take up the position. However, former captain Babar Azam is also among the contenders. “The final decision will be made by the chairman,” reports told.
Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi and Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans are currently leading the points table in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 9).
Pakistan ace fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi succeeded Babar Azam as T20I skipper in November last year. Pakistan has lost four of its five matches under Shaheen’s captaincy so far.
However, Lahore Qalandars won the last two additions of PSL under Shaheen Afridi’s captaincy.
