ISLAMABAD: Summer vacations have been announced in educational institutions across Pakistan after the rise in heat intensity and expected heat waves in the coming months.
In this regard, Punjab has first announced holidays for schools. Amid outcry from private schools against prolonged vacations, the Punjab government announced further seven-day school holidays because of the scorching heat on Monday.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar announced the holidays in a post on X. The minister shared a notification, stating that all the public and private schools would remain closed from May 25 to 31.
Earlier, the Punjab Government announced the summer vacations for schools in the province on Friday due to the rising temperatures. According to the notification, the summer holidays in all private and public schools will start from June 1, 2024 till August 14, 2024.
However, the provincial government decided on early vacations on May 25 due to predictions of heatwaves in the province.

“Viewing parents’ opinion and intensity of the weather, we have decided to give the holidays from this week,” he said.
The Balochistan government has announced summer vacations in schools across the province amid the scorching heat. The education department has announced summer vacations from May 15 to July 31 in areas facing heatwaves.
Educational activities will resume in these areas from August 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, there will be a 10-day holiday from July 22 to July 31 in colder regions.
Summer vacations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2024
Summer vacations have not been formally announced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province yet, but summer vacations will likely be held from June 1 to August 31 in all primary schools.
The summer holidays in middle, high, and higher secondary schools of plains will be from June 15 to August 31.
The official announcement will be released next week.
The Sindh Education Department has not formally announced the summer holidays yet.
Sources within the education department said that there will be 2 months of summer vacation across the province.
According to sources, there will be summer vacations from June 1 to July 31 in educational institutions in Sindh.
