As the political climate heats up ahead of the February 8 general elections in Pakistan, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari aimed subtle criticism at the Nawaz-led Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Addressing a public meeting in Shahdadpur, Bilawal emphasized the readiness of PPP supporters, referred to as “jiyalas,” for the upcoming polls. In a veiled jab at PML-N, he likened the party symbol, the lion, to a hiding cat seeking others to fight on its behalf.
Bilawal urged voters to grant a heavy mandate to PPP, claiming that PML-N’s electoral symbol ‘lion’ in Punjab and the ‘star’ in Sindh (symbol of Grand Democratic Alliance) are connected. He highlighted PPP’s manifesto, promising to enhance income, expand BISP coverage, provide 300 free electricity units through solar power, and offer interest-free loans to women.

Bilawal vowed to eliminate unnecessary ministries and subsidies, redirecting funds to public welfare projects if elected. Encouraging voters to choose PPP, he envisioned becoming the prime minister after securing victory in the polls and urged PPP candidates to prioritize serving the nation over personal interests.
