ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast monsoon rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several regions across the country.
Met office informed that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to penetrate the upper parts of the country from July 03.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain along with wind or thundershowers are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, and Gujranwala from July 2 to 7 with occasional gaps.
Other areas in Punjab including Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from are also expected to get rain under this system.
Met Office forecasted rain/thundershower in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah from July 4 (night) to 7.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms with (few heavy to very heavy falls at times) are expected in Kashmir’s Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from July 2 to 7 with occasional gaps.
In Balochistan, rain is expected in eastern Balochistan including Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Jaffarabad, and Naseerabad from July 3 to 7. Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in remaining districts of the province.
Similarly, some parts of Sindh will witness rainfall from July 4 to 7. However, Mainly hot and very humid weather is expected in most districts of the province.
According to the Met Office, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. In KP, rain is anticipated in Balakot, Mansehra, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, and Swat. Shangla, Battagram, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Khyber, Bajaur, and Waziristan.
Furthermore, Mainly partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions at times are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan. However, rainfall activity is also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar) during the week.
The PMD has advised residents of these areas to take precautionary measures to mitigate any adverse effects of the expected weather conditions.
PMD said torrential rains may cause flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, Galliyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, Kashmir, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan from 04th to 07th July.
