BIRMINGHAM: Champions India defeated champions Pakistan in the final match of World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on Saturday.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. They set a 157-run target for India. Chasing the target, India achieved the required number of runs in 19.1 overs at the loss of 5 wickets.
Pakistan performed impressively during the WCL 2024, losing only one match, which was their last group match against South Africa. Under the leadership of Younis Khan, the Green Shirts showed top form and defeated Australia, India, England and West Indies in the group stage.
Pakistan set a target of 199 runs in the semi-final against West Indies. After that, their bowlers performed brilliantly, restricting West Indies to 178 runs and taking the team to the final. Sohail Khan took four wickets by performing brilliantly.
India reached the semi-finals thanks to a better Net Run Rate (NRR) than South Africa, having won only two of their five group matches. In the semi-final against Australia, India won by 86 runs by performing brilliantly.
Chasing a huge target of 255 runs, Australia faced difficulties as the Indian bowlers controlled the game from the start. Australia ended their innings at 168-7 in the allotted overs, well short of the target.
