ISLAMABAD: Independent members have started submitting affidavits of allegiance to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after the decision of the Supreme Court on the reserved seats, here on Sunday.
As per the details, PTI leader Mian Azhar submitted an affidavit of allegiance to PTI while MPs Sardar Muhammad Ali Khan and Syed Ejaz Hussain Bhatti also submitted an affidavit of allegiance to Imran Khan’s party.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of Pakistan delivered a historic verdict, declaring Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf eligible for certain seats. The decision overturned earlier decisions of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which had denied the allotment of certain seats to the Sunni Unity Council (SIC).
The Supreme Court, in an 8-5 majority verdict, struck down the ECP’s decision to allocate certain seats to the ruling alliance as “unconstitutional”. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, who read the order in support of eight judges, said, “As a political party, the PTI is entitled to its reserved seats.”
