ISLAMABAD: Following the federal govt’s decision to crack down on false propaganda on social media, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has invited bids for the installation of firewalls.

According to the sources, govt has planned the installation of next-generation firewalls and web application firewalls (WAF) on internet service providers. The next-generation firewalls, set to be implemented over the next five years, will have deep packet inspection capabilities.

The PTA has specified that the next-generation firewalls will enable real-time data monitoring. Firewalls will be imported from China to ensure high security and reliability standards.

The next-generation firewalls, designated as Lot A, include advanced threat prevention services, URL filtering, application control, malware protection, advanced DNS security services, and six virtual firewall systems with client and clientless VPN services.

PTA called for electronic bids under Pepra’s e-pay system and the last date for submission of bids is July 26. The PTA has also secured agreements with internet service providers to install the firewalls, with the cost to be shared by the companies and the government.
