KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light rain over the weekend in the city after last week which will bring relief.
Karachi is likely to receive more rain and thundershowers today on Sunday.
Isolated rain in the city temporarily brought down the temperature, which had soared to 40.5 degrees Celsius recently, with the heat index touching 56 degrees Celsius. There was a brief respite from rain on Friday evening and additional rain on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the city during the last 24 hours was around 39 degrees Celsius. Despite another day of rain forecast, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid, with temperatures expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has also predicted intermittent rain in different parts of the country during the coming week.
Strong monsoon currents are expected from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal from July 22. Meteorologist Jawad Memon indicated that a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal may affect Sindh, with heavy rains expected in Karachi between July 22. -23 and will continue until next week.
The PMD has advised all concerned authorities to remain alert and take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward situation.
