LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to recruit 3000 women nurses on permanent basis, here on Sunday.
The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department (SHC&MED) has informed the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) of its intention to recruit 3,000 Charge Nurses (BS-16) for batch 2024, ensuring inclusion of all quotas.
SHC&MED submitted required forms and documents to PPSC and requested for immediate processing and compliance of relevant rules for selection of candidates.
The announcement came amid reports by the Senate Standing Committee on Health, which highlighted a significant shortage of nearly one million nurses in Pakistan. Additionally, between 30,000 and 40,000 doctors registered with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) are not currently practicing.
Despite this shortage, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced a plan to send educated Pakistani nurses to America for employment.
The agreement was made during a meeting in Islamabad with Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Phil Ramos, with a commitment to ease the process of sending nurses to New York.
