RAWALPINDI: The weather in Rawalpindi will mainly remain pleasant during the day with expected rainfall, gusty wind, and thunderstorms. However, the temperatures will vary from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius.
The humidity level ranges up to 95% with a 90 percent chance of rain, followed by a strong breeze in the direction southeast with a speed of 15 to 25 km/h. The air quality will be improved, due to continuous rain in most areas of Rawalpindi.
However, many areas of Rawalpindi are affected because of the rain, water has gushed into people’s houses causing great damage to the property as well as their belongings.
Roads are completely submerged in water affecting the transportation system in the city.
Earlier, Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Rawalpindi was on high alert to cope with urban flooding, said Managing Director (MD) Wasa, Muhammad Saleem Ashraf.
He informed that a rain emergency was declared in Rawalpindi and all arrangements were finalized to cope with flooding. Heavy machinery and personnel were deployed in different areas particularly in low-lying areas to ensure drainage of stagnant rainwater, he added.
Nullah Lai was being monitored, he said and informed that today, 15 feet water level was recorded at Katarina and 11 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge. Traffic flow was also normal at the Committee Chowk underpass, he said. According to the Meteorological Department, 84 mm of rain was recorded in Saidpur Village, 33 mm at Bokra, 37 mm at PMD, and 32 mm at Katcheri, WASA spokesman informed.
The Pakistan Metrological Department predicts heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds and thundershowers at isolated places, in Islamabad, Upper Punjab, and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Whereas, heavy rainfall with lightning is expected in Northeastern Punjab, and Kashmir from July 28 to 31.
