ISLAMABAD: Hafiz Naeem has criticized the ruling government for placing the burden on the people while avoiding cuts to their luxuries. Speaking to the media, the JI chief described the situation as a “big joke” and forced the government must meet their demands for any resolution.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a new sit-in in Karachi starting tomorrow, with plans to extend the protests nationwide. Initial demonstrations will occur in front of the Governor House and Chief Minister House, followed by sit-ins on highways.
The sit-in against electricity bills, organized by Jamaat-e-Islami, has now entered its fifth day, with participants remaining resolute despite the monsoon rains. The party has requested a guarantee from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding ongoing negotiations, citing delays in government responses.
On Saturday night, a three-member government delegation, including Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Energy Awais Leghari, and MNA Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, met with JI leaders at the sit-in site on Murree Road, Liaquat Bagh.
Jamaat-e-Islami has presented ten demands to the government and is pressing for a formal commitment from the Prime Minister. They insist that any agreement must be signed by PM Sharif to ensure a resolution of this matter.
