ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing a national mourning day in solidarity with the Palestinians on the loss of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh and to condemn the ongoing Israeli actions.
The decision was made during a consultative meeting of government-allied parties in Islamabad, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to address the worsening situation in Palestine.
In a joint declaration, it was announced that a funeral prayer in absentia for Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas Political Bureau chief who was martyred in Tehran on Wednesday, will be held nationwide after Friday prayers.
The meeting also resolved to present a resolution in Parliament expressing full support for the Palestinian people.
Participants condemned the ongoing Israeli actions in Palestine over the past nine months and expressed strong solidarity with Palestinians.
They urged the international community, including the United Nations, to break its silence, stop the genocide of Palestinians, and hold Israel accountable for war crimes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticized the international community’s silence over Israeli actions and condemned the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. He pointed out that Israel has violated international resolutions and decisions by the UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice, which has labeled Israel’s actions as genocide.
Sharif emphasized the challenge of stopping this genocide and commended countries that have condemned Israeli oppression in Gaza.
