HULUNBUIR: Pakistan managed a podium finish after defeating Korea 5-2 in third place playoff in the ongoing Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China on Tuesday.
After losing a semi-final against China 2-0 on penalty shoot-outs on Monday, Green Shirts tump Korea from 1-0 down to 5-2 to claim third position in the tournament.
The game started as a tough competition for Pakistan as the Green Shirts remained goalless in the first two quarters and the only goal was scored by Korean skipper Lee Jungjun in the 16th minute.
The table turned in the third quarter with Sufyan Khan converting a penalty corner to an equalizer for Pakistan in the 38th minute.
Sufyan Khan scored twice from penalty corners, while Hannan Shahid added two more and Roman Khan scored one. For Korea, Yang Ji-hun made it 2-2 in the 40th minute, but there was no stopping Pakistan after that.
Earlier, China booked a place in the finals of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 after defeating Pakistan 2-0 in a penalty shootout on Monday. The final hooter goes off with both teams scoring one goal each coming from Chinese player Lu Yuanlin and Pakistan’s Ahmad Nadeem.
